Achievements of Cooperation between WeTrans and the School of Translation and Interpreting, BLCU

Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU) is a university directly overseen by the People’s Republic of China’s Ministry of Education. Nicknamed the Mini-United Nations, BLCU is the first university in China that offers Chinese language and culture courses to foreign students. BLCU provides Chinese students with professional courses in various fields including foreign languages, Chinese language, information science, finance, and many others. Additionally, BLCU fosters the growth of Chinese academic faculty and supplies language courses designed for those who plan to study abroad. Over 50 years of development has solidified BLCU’s position as a multidisciplinary university that enhances language education and research. This was achieved with synergetic development in fields such as Chinese language, foreign languages, and other relevant disciplines. BLCU has been an important academic center for language and cultural research, and a cradle of advanced international talent in China. In 2014, explicit goals were set to build a first-class language university and to promote the development of four important academic fields.

Beijing WeTrans Technology Co., Ltd (known as WeTrans) has been earnestly fulfilling social responsibilities and actively serving as a bridge between enterprises and translators. CATS 2.0—developed by WeTrans—synergizes well with the School of Translation and Interpreting at BLCU’s applied translator cultivation in the integration between government, enterprises, universities, and research institutions. After in-depth communication with Professor Liu Heping, Dean of the School of Translation and Interpreting at BLCU, Ms. Peng Rong, General Manager of WeTrans, confirmed BLCU as the first university WeTrans would cooperate with.

In May of 2016, Ms. Peng Rong, General Manager of WeTrans, was invited by the School of Translation and Interpreting at BLCU as a part-time enterprise supervisor. This was an important milestone in university-enterprise cooperation for WeTrans.

After more than 2 months of careful preparation, in July of 2016, WeTrans admitted nearly 30 students from the School of Translation and Interpreting at BLCU to a summer internship at WeTrans. With opportunities to practice in a real work environment and to be guided by enterprise experts, the students made progress in both translation skills and other professional qualities.
